GE, Kingdom sign development MoU for energy projects
American conglomerate General Electric and the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding, forming a development partnership to enhance industrial infrastructure and research alternative energy use in the Kingdom. GE, one of the largest companies in the US, plans to work alongside MIME to promote energy initiatives involving advanced gas turbine technology and efficient smart grid technology, according to GE Vice Chairman John Rice. “As one of the dynamic countries in ASEAN today, Cambodia’s location between Vietnam and Thailand means it plays a strategic role in the rapidly growing cross-border trade,” he said. High-output rice seed factory set to be built

Floods force GDP revision
Officials now expect 6 per cent growth Cambodia has lowered its economic growth projection from 7 to 6 per cent for 2011 after more than a month of flood devastation in the Kingdom and continued economic turmoil in the United States and Europe, Deputy Prime Minister Keat Chhon said yesterday. The full impact of the floods cannot yet be determined, but growth should remain at or above 6 per cent, officials and experts said. Thais to reconsider oil MoU
Cambodian officials yesterday welcomed statements from Thailand’s foreign minister that an all-important 2001 memorandum of understanding on the Overlapping Claims Area would most likely be renewed. Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul said the MoU would be sent to Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s cabinet on October 18 for review, according to Pheu Thai spokeswoman Titima Chaisang. The 2001 agreement between the two governments originally outlined a plan for defining the disputed Overlapping Claims Area, which is believed to be rich in oil and gas. Continue reading
